Description (From publisher)

A clever tile-laying game. The southern French city of Carcassonne is famous for its unique Roman and Medieval fortifications. The players develop the area around Carcassonne and deploy their followers on the roads, in the cities, in the cloisters, and in the fields. The skill of the players to develop the area will determine who is victorious.

Review

Carcassonne is a great gateway game. Meaning that it gives an inexperience gamer a a good experience and introduction to "Euro" style games.

The object of the game is to be the player with the most victory points at the end of the game. This is achieved by allocating your workers on the roads, cities, cloisters, and farms, that are being built, throughout the game and receiving victory points.

The game begins with a single tile in the center of play. Players then take turns drawing face down tiles and placing them in play. There are a few rules to placing the tiles like matching the edges and placing them adjacent to tiles already played.

I love the randomness of drawing the tiles, it means no two games will ever be the same.

Once a player places a tile they may then allocate one of their workers. Again there are a few rules that dictate how workers are placed. Now that the player has a worker in play, they then try to complete the road, city, or cloister which they have begun.

When a player completes a road, city, or cloister, they then score it and remove their worker from the board to be used again later.

Now that all of the tiles have been played the game ends and the final scoring occurs.

I have noticed that there are many different strategies that can be used to win the game, giving players even more choice during a game.

There are also many expansions, which allows for a variety of different game play every time.

I have played this game with 2, 3, and 4 players and it has played great each time.

I'm giving Carcassonne a 4 out of 5 Super Meeple rating for its creative game mechanics and fresh feel for each new game!
